What is an LC Oval Gear Flowmeter?

A gear flowmeter is a positive displacement measuring instrument, mainly composed of a metering shell, oval gear rotors, and transmission components. The LC oval gear flowmeter is one of the typical positive displacement flowmeters, used to measure the flow of liquids filling the pipeline under a certain pressure. It features a simple structure, reliable operation, high accuracy, no special requirements for the flow field in the inlet and outlet pipelines, and a wide range of viscosity and flow rates for the measured medium. It is mainly used for continuous or intermittent measurement and control of liquid flow in pipelines.


It is widely used in the measurement of flow in industries such as petroleum, chemical industry, medicine, transportation, and food, as well as in medical and health, scientific research, and military industries, and also in the detection of liquid flow in commercial sectors. The oval gear flowmeter is particularly suitable for the measurement of oil and fuel.

Remarks: Material C is OCr18Ni12Mo2Ti; Material B is 0Cr18Ni9Ti. For the standard type: flanges below 2.5MPa are in raised face form; flanges of 6.3MPa are in male-female face form; flanges of 4.0MPa can be in either form. For special materials, please negotiate.

Working Principle and Characteristics of LC Oval Gear Flowmeter

  1. It relies on the pressure head of the measured medium to drive the oval gear to rotate for metering.

  2. The higher the viscosity of the medium, the smaller the leakage from the gap between the gear and the metering space. Therefore, the higher the viscosity of the measured medium, the smaller the leakage error, which is more favorable for measurement.

  3. It is suitable for measuring the flow of high-viscosity media but not for fluids containing solid particles (solid particles will jam the gear, making it impossible to measure the flow). If the measured liquid medium contains gas, it will also cause measurement errors.


In addition, the oval gear flowmeter can indicate cumulative flow, instantaneous flow, single flow, etc. on site, and can also output pulse signals, 4-20mA or 1-5V analog signals, 4-20mA+HART, MODBUS, and support 232 and 485 communications. Combined with a general mechanical batch controller or electronic batch controller, it can realize various functions such as different types of filling and batch control.
