What type of flowmeter can be used to measure steam?

Commonly used flow meters for steam measurement include:

Vortex flow meter‌: Based on the Kármán vortex principle, it measures flow by detecting vortex frequency. It offers a wide rangeability (up to 15:1), low-pressure loss, and is suitable for scenarios with large steam load fluctuations.

Differential pressure flow meter‌: It measures flow by inferring it from the pressure difference through a throttling device (e.g., orifice plate, V-cone). It is resistant to high temperature and pressure but requires regular maintenance. V-cone flow meters have lower pressure loss and are suitable for high-precision requirements.

Mass flow meter‌: It directly measures mass flow, eliminating the need for temperature and pressure compensation. It offers high accuracy but is expensive, making it suitable for industries with extremely high precision requirements, such as pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

Other types‌:

Pilot tube type‌: Simple mechanical structure, suitable for small to medium flow rates.

Ultrasonic flow meter‌: Non-contact type, suitable for large-diameter pipes, but has high requirements for steam dryness.

When selecting, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the steam type (saturated/ superheated), flow range, budget, and installation conditions.
