Common Faults of Gas Mass Flowmeters

Time: 2025-10-10 12:10:40 Click:0

Gas mass flowmeters commonly experience three types of faults: hardware-related, software-related, and environmental factors. The specific manifestations and causes are as follows:

I. Hardware Faults

Sensor Abnormalities‌

Symptoms: Significant measurement errors, no display, or signal loss.

Causes: Improper installation (e.g., near vibrating pump outlets), incorrect wiring (mismatched power voltage), or sensor contamination/damage.

Solutions: Check wiring connections, clean the sensor, or replace components.

Mechanical Jamming or Blockage‌

Symptoms: Turbine/rotor jamming causing no output or erratic readings.

Causes: Media contamination, bearing wear, or incorrect installation orientation.

Solutions: Disassemble for cleaning, replace bearings, or realign installation direction.

II. Software & Parameter Issues

Zero Calibration Errors‌

Symptoms: Zero drift or stagnant readings.

Causes: Improper zero calibration (non-filled pipe), temperature fluctuations, or trapped bubbles.

Solutions: Recalibrate with stable fluid conditions.

Incorrect Parameter Settings‌

Symptoms: Flow compensation errors or garbled display.

Causes: Mismatched pressure/temperature parameters with actual operating conditions.

Solutions: Verify and correct parameter settings.

III. Environmental & Media Factors

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)‌

Symptoms: erratic readings or signal anomalies.

Causes: Proximity to frequency converters or poor grounding.

Solutions: Use shielded cables and relocate away from interference sources.

Media Property Changes‌

Symptoms: Air entrainment or two-phase flow triggering alarms.

Causes: Contaminants in gas or temperature exceeding limits.

Solutions: Install media filters or select high-temperature-resistant models.

IV. Other Faults

Pipeline Vibration‌: reinforce supports or install vibration dampers.

Over-range Operation‌: replace with a flowmeter with appropriate range.

For troubleshooting, always cross-reference with high-reliability sources and prioritize analysis based on actual operating conditions.
